Pool Automation Trends Worth Knowing About Before You Design
Automation has moved fast enough in recent years that what counted as a premium feature a few years ago is now a fairly standard conversation during design. Riverstone and First Colony both require architectural control committee approval for pool and backyard plans, including review of fencing and setbacks relative to the deed restrictions, which is handled during the design phase.

What's Trending Toward Standard
App-based control of pump scheduling, lighting scenes, and heater temperature has become a common ask on new builds rather than a rare upsell, largely because variable-speed pumps (now the energy-efficient default on most new construction) are naturally suited to programmable scheduling anyway.
What's Still a Premium Layer
Full chemical-feed automation, voice-assistant integration, and AI-based monitoring (see the related article) are still more of a premium add than a default inclusion as of now; if any of these interest you, raising it during the design phase (rather than after equipment is already selected) keeps the wiring and plumbing options open rather than requiring a retrofit later.
